The UK Foreign Office has issued a stark warning to Brits planning to travel to parts of Europe as fires and floods wreak havoc across the continent.

Storm Boris has unleashed torrential rain on several Central European countries, including Poland, Romania, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary, leading to deadly flooding.

The deluge has claimed lives across the region, with seven fatalities in Romania where waters have since receded, according to Al Jazeera.

In Poland, six people have tragically lost their lives, while five more have died in Austria. The Czech Republic has seen three deaths, and tens of thousands of households in both the Czech Republic and Poland are without power or fresh water.

In light of the devastation, the UK Foreign Office is urging anyone planning to travel to these regions to check the latest travel advice before setting off, reports the Express.

"Due to floods in the East of Austria, road closures and disruptions to public transport may occur in affected areas. Travellers have been advised to "Check road traffic information and public transport updates from Austrian railways and Vienna public transport before you travel."

Adding to the chaos, wildfires have claimed at least five lives in Portugal. In an update yesterday, the Foreign Office warned: "There are currently a significant number of forest fires burning in several parts of Portugal.

"The Portuguese government has declared a state of Alert until 11:59pm on Thursday 19 September. Access to forests and activities in rural areas may be restricted.

Roads may be closed due to smoke and ash. The situation is fast-moving and could change rapidly. Keep up-to-date with developments and follow the advice of the Civil Protection Authority. "

Over 5,000 firefighters are battling wildfires that are "raging across the country", according to Portugal's Prime Minister.
