The clever trick means you don't have to wash out your paintbrush

Brits will be using the autumn rainy days to decorate their homes, with many picking up the paintbrush to give rooms a new lease of life.

Everyone knows that painting is a blast until it's time for the clean-up, which is about as fun as watching paint dry. But thanks to one woman's trick, you might never need to scrub those bristles in the sink again.

This tip is perfect for those DIY jobs needing a dash of colour, and social media users are kicking themselves for not coming up with it sooner. The user suggested simply chucking the grubby paintbrush into a sealable plastic bag - a ziplock will do the trick - and just leave them be until you're ready for round two.

Taking to Facebook, she wrote: "We all hate having to clean paint brushes every evening (Right? ) only to then need them again in the morning? The day after? To save this horrible job keep them in a zippo bag until you need them again as the paint doesn't dry.

"When all finished, they can be cleaned... Ready for your next DIY job." She posted the genius idea on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips New Facebook group, and the cleaning obsessives there are lapping it up.

While loads of people were over the moon with her savvy hack, others chimed in with their own tips. One fan commented: "Never knew this will defo try thank you." Another shared: "Always wrap mine in cling film, same result. Save the washing and drying of brushes x".

Another person shared: "Have just kept a small tub of emulsion paint out with the brush pushed right in so the bristles are covered in paint in case we missed any bits and it has kept really well. Did some touching up and going to wash out now four days later." A fourth person added: "I do that and put them in the fridge still good over a week later", to which someone responded: "In the freezer they last even longer."
