The DIY Christmas hack wowed festive fans

A money-savvy mum has delighted shoppers by sharing how she saved over £70 by creating her own version of a viral festive garland. The DIY fan took inspiration from a beautiful decoration sold by Anthropologie, which features several satin bows.

Keen to save a few pennies, the shopper styled her own garland using bows she purchased from Amazon, and the results stunned social media users. Sharing her savings on TikTok, Dana Lar revealed her method in a post shared as @danalbabyy.

US-based Dana wrote: "I love a good DIY," and said she spent 25(£20)onhergarlandasopposedto25 (£20) on her garland as opposed to 25(£20)onhergarlandasopposedto128 (£98) she'd spend if she'd purchased Anthropologie's version.

In another video, Dana then explained how she achieved her results by gluing together green, red, and white bows to create a garland perfect for decorating fireplaces or Christmas trees. "I would say it's about 6ft in total. I used four green, four red, three white," added Dana.

While UK shoppers might not be able to get the same bows Dana used, there are lots of options available on Amazon including bow barrettes available in white (£3.99), red (£4.99) and green (£4.99), or a pink, red and blue three-piece multipack available for £7.99.

According to online reviews, the individual barrette bows are "good" quality, though a few customers said they had problems with the attached clip; meanwhile, reviewers loved the durability of the pink, red and blue pack but some complained that the bows arrived crinkled and needed to be steamed.

The good news is shoppers can mix and match as they see fit. As DIY fans pointed out in response to the popular TikTok, the possibilities are endless. Reacting to Dana's video, which has racked up a million views and counting.

One impressed DIY lover said: "Would LOVE to make this! So cute!" A second thought: "These colours are divine!" Someone else praised: "THIS IS THE BEST GARLAND I'VE EVER SEEN," and a fan penned: "Thank you for the best Christmas present possible."

Sharing a suggestion, a commenter wrote: "Get a micro stitch or a stitch to attach," and another added: "You could probably even safety pin them together on the back if you don’t have hot glue!"
