Kate Middleton's brother has shared a heartwarming insight into her relationship with Prince William in his new memoir.

James Middleton's book Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, is set to hit shelves next week. It contains a number of anecdotes about his royal relatives, but it’s the observations about his sister’s relationship that have truly opened the door to a previously unseen side of the Princess - including how meeting William completely transformed both her life and personality.

Reflecting on her evolution into the royal we know and love today, James recalled a moment shortly after she had announced her engagement to the Prince of Wales back in 2010.

“Our family knew a day or so before it is officially announced in November 2010,” James wrote in an excerpt from Meet Ella published by the Daily Mail. “Catherine, Pippa and I go out for a walk with Ella and Tilly to our local pub in a village close to Bucklebury. We sit in a corner, chattering quietly," he adds.

“Pippa and I want to be visibly excited, but we have to tamp down our emotions so no one suspects a thing,” he explained. “We make a quiet acknowledgement that we’ll always be there for each other, look out for one another, support each other. No matter how crazy things get.”

Expanding on just how much William had transformed Kate’s life, and that of her family, James continued: “William has been in our lives for so long and we’ve grown very fond of him,” he wrote. “He feels like our older brother and he and Catherine are so clearly a good fit, just right for each other.”

Following his sister’s official engagement announcement, James also suddenly realised how truly happy he was for the couple - particularly as the duo appeared to bring out the best in each other.

“I thought how lucky William was to be marrying my capable, down-to-earth big sister, and I felt absolutely reassured that they were in love,” he wrote in Meet Ella. “It was beautiful to see how he brought out her confidence,” he continued. “She’d blossomed. I knew he’d look after her, and he does to this day.”

Since meeting at St Andrews university over twenty years ago, William and Kate have gone from strength to strength, with the couple supporting each other through several key life changing milestones, such as the birth of their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as offering a supportive shoulder through several bereavements, including that of her majesty The Queen.

Most recently, William has stepped in to support his wife amid her battle with an undisclosed form of cancer, however the Princess revealed earlier this month that she had successfully completed her chemotherapy treatment and was keen to look towards the future.
