Environmental activists set up mock wind turbines at Trump's Scottish golf course in response to his support for more oil and gas extraction in the North Sea

Environmental campaigners snuck into one of US President Donald Trump's Scottish golf resorts this morning to stage a protest - but they made sure not to mess with anyone's tee times.

Greenpeace revealed that three activists erected six miniature mock wind turbines on the fourth hole green at Trump Turnberry Golf Club in South Ayrshire at around 6.30am on Monday. As golfers subsequently approached, the protesters dismantled the replica turbines so as not to interfere with their game.

The campaigners stated that their protest was a direct response to the US president's well-known opposition to wind turbines and his backing of oil and gas energy.

The action follows Mr Trump's post on his Truth Social platform last week, in which he voiced his support for increased oil and gas extraction in the North Sea.

He wrote: "Aberdeen should be booming. Norway sells its North Sea Oil to the U.K. at double the price. They are making a fortune. U.K., which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should, DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!! It is absolutely crazy that they don't... AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!"

Greenpeace claims that 65% of Scots oppose Mr Trump's push for greater oil and gas energy production, favouring renewable energy instead.

Lily-Rose Ellis, Greenpeace climate campaigner, said: "Donald Trump wants to keep us as lifetime members of his Gulf Club, where every time he starts an illegal war, bills go through the roof while his fossil fuel backers make billions.

"But we don't need to stay stuck in his sand trap – the renewables Trump hates are the best insurance policy against the chaos he's unleashed. Wind and solar farms built since the start of the Ukraine war have saved us seven million pounds every day since Trump attacked Iran and drove gas prices back up again.

"More clean energy that doesn't rely on the Strait of Hormuz or Russian pipelines can save us money, boost our security and tackle climate change. It's a hole in one."

Trump Turnberry has been contacted for a response.
