A basement which has been compared to a "hole in the ground" has been put on the housing market for £30,000.

The supposed property, which has been described as a "unique basement space", is on sale in Streatham, South London. According to the listing on Zoopla, the site offers an "excellent investment opportunity".

Pictures show the space is completely empty and features nothing but exposed brick and structure. One shocked viewer remarked: “ I knew property prices in London were insane but this takes the biscuit. They’re asking a fortune for what looks like a hole in the ground.”

The prospective buyer would have to splash out an eyewatering sum to revamp the large space, which consists of four blank rooms. Estate Agents, We Can Properties said the structure is located in Baldry Gardens, SW16, and described it as a 'property'. The listing states: "Welcome to this unique basement space. The asking price for this is £30,000, presenting an excellent investment opportunity in a sought-after location. The versatile layout is an ideal blank canvas for personalization.

"Conveniently situated, this property is within close proximity to essential amenities. The nearest bus stop is just a short walk away, providing easy access to transportation. Additionally, the closest railway stations, Streatham, Streatham Common, and Streatham Hill, are all within a 1-mile radius, ensuring seamless connectivity to the rest of the city.

"Residents will appreciate the proximity to Tesco Express (0.5km) and a variety of restaurants, offering diverse dining options within walking distance. For families, the area is surrounded by reputable schools, including St Leonards Church of England Primary School (0.8km), Streatham Wells Primary School (1.2km), and Dunraven School (1.5km).

"Furthermore, this location provides easy access to healthcare facilities, entertainment venues, and green spaces. With a range of amenities such as hospitals, gyms, parks, and cinemas nearby, residents can enjoy a convenient and fulfilling lifestyle." But this isn't the only questionable space to hit the market. A small balcony was previously put up for sale in Kensington, London. The balcony was priced at £50,000 and featured some artificial grass and offered a view of crammed buildings.

One benefit is the site is located close to transport links (

The listing at the time partially said: "Next Home Ltd presents a unique opportunity to acquire this exquisite terrace with its own private entrance via a lift, located in one of South Kensington's most coveted addresses. This exciting property is ideal for individuals looking to expand their property or business portfolio."

One social media user said: "Note no actual measurement. Best guess from Google Maps in 4x2m. A metaphor for the housing market." Another person wrote: "You can buy a balcony in central London. Just the balcony, not the rest of the flat. Ideal for al-fresco living."
