A couple who won a life-changing amount of money on a scratchcard bought on a whim are heading to Las Vegas.

Robert Kittle, 58, had popped to the shops for goods when he spotted the cards near the counter. Chancing his luck he bought one and, moments later, was shocked when he realised he had scooped £300,000 on the Luxury Lines National Lottery Scratchcard.

To celebrate the good fortune, he and wife Julie Goodwin, 63, from Plymouth are ticking off an item on their bucket list and heading to Las Vegas. Robert said: “We have talked about going to Las Vegas for a long time and it’s been a dream of ours to go together, so being able to make it a reality is amazing.

"We never thought we’d get to go. To be able to take our family is an incredible feeling and we can’t wait to make those memories all together.

The couple won £300,000 on the scracher

“I nipped to the shops to pick up a newspaper, but they didn’t have any left - when I saw the scratchcards I thought, ‘why not?’ I honestly just couldn’t believe it when I started scratching off the symbols and saw that I had won

“I checked it over and over, and even got my family members to double check before we realised that we’d won such a huge amount. It was very surreal seeing the amount of money in front of me.”

Robert and Julie, who have seven children, 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren between them, are now taking time to think about how else they would like to treat themselves and their family following their win.

The Luxury Lines Scratchcard from The National Lottery has a 1 in 3.55 overall chance of winning a prize. The game costs £3 and prizes range from £3 up to the top prize of £300,000.

Robert added: “As well as being able to treat our family, we’re looking forward to being able to enjoy some financial security in the future and have some of the stress of money taken away – it still doesn’t feel real.”
