Bull gores man in scrotum during traditional running event

This is the horrifying moment a 64-year-old man was gored in the groin at a running of the bulls event in Spain.

Seconds after the mammal was let loose from its pen, it charged towards the local man at breakneck speed, who was stood a few yards down the road. Terrifying footage captures the moment the muscular bovid picks up the man, who was stood behind a metal barrier, with one its horns.

Before the man had a chance to react, he was held in the air for several agonising seconds as locals gasped in shock and watched on helplessly. The bull then dumped him onto the ground before onlookers rushed over to pick him up. The horror unfolded on Monday, September 16, in La Vall d’Uixó, north-east of Valencia, Spain.

Running of the bulls is a dangerous event which sees people running in front of a small group of bulls, typically six, but sometimes ten or more, that are released on sectioned-off streets in a town. It usually takes place as part of a summertime festival every July in Pamplona, Spain.

Bull-minders, or pastores, are usually around to guide the animals to the bullring, and on some occasions, use rods on runners who misbehave. Several people are injured each year, usually from being trampled or falling. Sixteen people are also reported to have died from their injuries.

The goring left the victim, identified as F.M.N, with entry and exit wounds which had an upward trajectory. An onsite medical team, as well as two doctors who were at the event as spectators, gave him first aid. The local was conscious when he was taken to a hospital in nearby Villarreal, reports NeedToKnow.

Luckily, the bull’s horn had missed all his major blood vessels, but his scrotum was “affected” by the horn’s “entry into the left inguinal area above the sphincter”, according to the medical report. Local media reported on Monday that he would undergo surgery.

The incident follows the death of a 57-year-old man in hospital in May, seven weeks after he was gored twice during a bullfight in Vall d’Uixó.
