Everton make decision on Sean Dyche's future if Toffees lose to Aston Villa (original) (raw)

Everton are bottom of the table without a win as they head to Aston Villa and Sean Dyche has never lost four straight Premier League games at Goodison Park

Some fans are calling for Sean Dyche to go after their winless start

Sean Dyche’s job as Everton boss will not be in any danger if the Blues lose at Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Everton are already bottom of the Premier League without a point and defeat at Villa Park would consign the Merseyside club to four straight league losses for the first time during Dyche’s 20-month reign. Some fans would like to see the return of former boss David Moyes, who left West Ham in the summer, and the Scot enjoyed 11 successful years with Everton before he joined Manchester United in 2013.

Dyche’s position will not be under any threat if Everton lose and the club feel he has enough credit in the bank after his two successful relegation battles. Dyche also managed to keep Everton up comfortably last season, despite picking up just one point from their first five Premier League games.

The club understand the fans’ deep frustration after the sickening loss last time out to Bournemouth, when Everton led 2-0 with just three minutes of normal time remaining at Goodison Park. They know supporters are desperate to see more progress on the pitch after being sucked into the relegation quagmire for the last three seasons.

However they will not even consider Dyche’s tenure if Everton are beaten and believe wholeheartedly the club is on the right track under him. They back the way Dyche has reshaped his squad, bringing in younger, improving players, and only signing older ones on short-term deals.

They believe the team is playing better than their results suggest and they were competitive against Brighton before they controversially had a penalty decision overturned by VAR. They also deservedly led 2-0 against Bournemouth before they imploded in the final seven minutes.

They believe results will come, particularly when England centre-half Jarrad Branthwaite returns from injury and they have sorely missed him during their difficult start. The club, who are in takeover talks with John Textor, applaud the job Dyche and director of football Kevin Thelwell have done and they have cut the wage bill and reduced spending on transfers.

They have also brought in enough money in the transfer market to banish any fears of fresh points deductions by the Premier League for PSR breaches. Dyche and Thelwell have made around £20million for the Blues in the transfer market this summer, mainly by selling Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana to Villa.

They have used the loan market to sign, or re-sign, Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja. The club believe they are in a better position financially now than they were 12 months ago and that Dyche is a big part of that.
