Harry Kane has said he 'assumes' he will be fit and available for Bayern Munich's trip to Aston Villa next week.

For the first time this season, Bayern failed to win a game, after they were held by reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena. And the night ended with concerns over the fitness of their talisman after he was substituted with a knock in the closing stages.

The initial prognosis was a worrying one with the club's sporting director Max Eberl saying: "When Harry leaves the field [that] means something because he's pretty tough. [It] doesn't look good, but we hope he's made strong out of good English wood and nothing's broken."

Vincent Kompany also unable to clarify the severity of any injury, adding: "Hopefully it's nothing serious. I'm not a doctor and it's much too early. I know something happened, but I hope he's ready for Wednesday."

Bayern will head to the Midlands in the next few days ahead of Wednesday night's clash with Villa. Both sides got their Champions League campaigns off to a winning start earlier this month and will be looking to make it two from two in a repeat of the 1982 European Cup final.

And Kompany will be desperate for his leading light to be involved, having already scored 10 goals in just seven matches - including four in Europe - this season. Speaking after the draw with Leverkusen, the England captain told reporters that all being well, he expected to be ready to go against Unai Emery's side.

"It happened during a tackle, it was painful. We'll investigate further tomorrow," Kane said of the injury. And pressed on whether he will play against Villa, he added: "I assume that I can play."

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: "Harry took a blow to his foot, but from what I've just heard from the doctors, it's nothing serious. We'll examine it again tomorrow."

Kane was injured during the draw with Bayer Leverkusen

Kane made no reference to the injury on his social media account, choosing to instead reflect on a night which saw Bayern fail to strike a decisive blow on their title rivals. He said: "Tough game and very frustrating not to win. We’ve just gotta keep going forward with the same strong mindset."

Prior to his injury in the 86th minute, Kane struggled to have an influence on proceedings, failing to register a shot as a starting player in the league for the first time in three years. Robert Andrich put the visitors ahead in the first half, before Aleksandar Pavlovic equalised a few minutes later.

The result leaves Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table with 13 points from a possible 15, two ahead of RB Leipzig and another clear of Saturday night's opponents.

Villa meanwhile take on Ipswich Town in the Premier League, looking to continue their own excellent start to the season. A win at Portman Road would see them go level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table, having won four of their opening five league matches.
