Nottingham Forest surprised Liverpool with a 1-0 win at Anfield - their first in 55 years - as Jamie Carragher's prediction was proven wrong

Sky Sports television pundits Roy Keane (R) and Jamie Carragher look on before the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on October 3, 2021 in Liverpool, England.

Roy Keane had the last laugh over Jamie Carragher at the weekend

Jamie Carragher has been left red-faced after Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest - and Roy Keane's pre-match prediction turned out to be true.

Arne Slot endured his first Premier League season defeat at the weekend when Callum Hudson-Odoi netted the only goal in the 72nd minute, securing victory and three crucial points for Forest.

The surprise outcome left former Liverpool defender Carragher eating his words, as he predicted on The Overlap podcast that the Reds would sail to a simple 2-0 win. The 46-year-old even claimed that the club could afford to "rest" players ahead of their Champions League game against AC Milan in midweek.

Carragher confidently said: " Liverpool Forest. Two-nil, probably rest a couple of people for Milan."

Former Manchester United midfielder Keane couldn't resist teasing him, replying: "He loves two-nils!" Carragher added: "They're in control of it a bit more, it's slower and it's just get to two-nil after an hour." Keane fired back jokingly: "Trent could get a hat-trick if he's higher up the pitch."

Doubling down on his prediction, Carragher continued: "Two-nil, probably make a couple of changes for Milan."

Finally, Keane shared his own take on the game, predicting Liverpool would indeed bag a victory but not without conceding, as he said: "3-1, I think Gibbs-White will score."

Carragher then highlighted Liverpool's solid defensive start to the season, citing their clean sheets in back-to-back 2-0 victories against Ipswich Town and Brentford - as well as their 3-0 domination of United.

Carragher said: "Liverpool haven't conceded a goal yet, you know." Keane then replied: "Exactly, so that means they will concede one." Keane's playful prediction of Liverpool leaking goals turned out to be true as Hudson-Odoi netted a late strike in the second half, handing the Reds a 1-0 defeat and dropping them to fourth place in the Premier League table.

Liverpool are now gearing up for a challenging midweek Champions League fixture against AC Milan at the San Siro, followed by a return to Anfield for a Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, September 21.
