Jude Bellingham is set for a spell on the sidelines
Jude Bellingham has been dealt a painful blow after being sidelined by a leg injury that will see him miss a run of games for Real Madrid - and he is set to miss England's first international break too.
Bellingham has emerged as one of Real Madrid's most important stars and played a crucial role in the club winning the double of La Liga and the Champions League last season - before playing every game of England's Euro 2024 campaign en route to the final.
He had a remarkable first season with Madrid as he plundered 23 goals for the Spanish giants, setting up a further 11, before netting twice and and assisting once for England at the Euros.
Bellingham has already played twice for Madrid this season, starting both games in the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta before a 1-1 draw at Mallorca on LaLiga's opening day.
But now Madrid are preparing to be without their star midfielder for the next few weeks after announcing he had suffered a leg problem that was picked up during a training session.
A statement read: "Following tests carried out today on Jude Bellingham by Real Madrid's medical team, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantaris muscle in his right leg. His progress will be monitored."
Real Madrid don't expect Bellingham back until after the international break - meaning he would miss England's next round of fixtures.

England are due to play the Republic of Ireland in a Nations League clash on September 7 before a home game against Finland in the same competition on September 10. Both of those games will be managed by Under-21 boss Lee Carsley following the resignation of Gareth Southgate.
For Madrid, Bellingham is set to miss their first home game of the season against Real Valladolid as well as clashes against Las Palmas and Real Betis. He will be racing to return for a trip to Real Sociedad on September 15 - with a huge game against rivals Atletico coming later in the month.
While Bellingham won't be present against Valladolid, it will be Kylian Mbappe's first home game since completing his huge move to the Bernabeu and manager Carlo Ancelotti predicted a "beautiful day" for the Frenchman.
“It’s going to be a beautiful day for Mbappe, playing for the first time at the Bernabeu wearing Real’s jersey,” said the Italian. "The fans are going to enjoy it a lot, I’m sure of that."
