Manchester United are expected to offer Amad a new contract soon

Manchester United are set to offer Amad a new contract in the coming months following the winger's bright start to the season.

The Ivory Coast international, 22, was named as United's Player of the Month for August after finishing last season strongly but has entered the final year of the deal he signed back in the summer of 2020.

Manchester United do hold a one-year option which would prevent Amad from leaving as a free agent next summer. But it seems their preferred option is to agree fresh terms before the New Year.

That's according to a new report from The Manchester Evening News, who outline that United are expected to initiate talks in the coming months.

It's also claimed they will trigger the option in Amad's deal if an agreement isn't reached before January given he would then be free to talk with any interested clubs from overseas.

Amad joined United from Rangers in a £37million deal and has established himself as an important part of the club's future plans after impressing during a season long loan with Sunderland in the Championship back in the 2022/23 campaign.

The winger even teased during the club's pre-season tour in the summer that he'd be content to stay at Old Trafford for life. He said: “Yeah, why not? I'm very happy here. I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone, good energy. Why not stay here all my life?”

Amad suffered a knee injury during pre-season last year and spent five months on the sidelines, but he was promised by Erik ten Hag that the current campaign would be different.

The winger said: “It wasn’t easy for me to get an injury in pre-season last season. I was out a long time but the most important thing was to come back stronger, to help the team and, in the end, i was happy with my contribution. I know last season I didn't play a lot.

“But this season is going to be a good season for everyone and motivated to start the season. The manager and I had a conversation, a positive conversation, and he said good things to me.

“ I believe in the manager. Last last season I din't play a lot, but I think I will have good things this season. The manager - everyone thinks he’s a good guy. I speak with him and he gives me a lot of confidence.”
