Manchester United fans lauded their former midfielder Hannibal Mejbri after a video surfaced of the player taunting Leeds fans following Burnley's 1-0 win at Elland Road - years after being teased by supporters.

Mejbri left Old Trafford this summer in deal worth up to £9.4million, ending his five year spell with Man United after struggling to secure regular first team football.

The Tunisia international has since become an important player for new Clarets boss Scott Parker, starting him twice in Burnley's opening five games of the Championship season as the team bid to earn an immediate return to the Premier League.

Mejbri certainly enjoyed his day out in Leeds after getting one over on supporters who had mocked him in 2020 during a Man United FA Youth Cup game.

The 21-year-old was reportedly called a "s*** Sideshow Bob" by Leeds fans in the match, with Mejbri then posting a picture of the Simpsons character on Instagram after United won the game.

Mejbri made sure to stick the boot into Leeds fans again as he gestured towards them after coming off in the 73rd minute - clapping and applauding the visiting Burnley fans and punching the air right next to the home end - before turning to the Leeds fans and lifting his arms aloft.

United fans revelled in the cheeky gesture, with one saying: "Hannibal is rent free in every Leeds fans' head," while another wrote: "Re-sign him immediately."

A third said: "Hannibal making Leeds fans cry more after losing to Burnley, love it," while another read: "Once a Red, always a Red."

Mejbri finished his United career with 13 senior appearances, eight of which came in the Premier league, scoring his first and only goal last season in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton. He was loaned out twice to Birmingham City and Sevilla and now is hopeful of making waves at Turf Moor with more minutes under his belt.

"I’m very excited," Mejbri said after joining. "Very happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans. I have played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing.

"After speaking to the coach [Scott Parker] the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can make success."
