Humphrey Ker, executive director of Wrexham, has humorously branded the club's celebrity co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as "monsters" following his commitment to run a marathon for charity.

The commitment was made earlier this year at an AGM meeting, with the Wrexham Miners Project set to benefit from his effort, a 26-mile run that he has vowed to complete at next April's Manchester Marathon.

Wrexham's support for the initiative is already known; the club has chosen the Wrexham Miners Project as its charitable partner for this season, aiming to raise awareness and help achieve its goals. The project's focus is to preserve the rich mining heritage of the area and bring new life into the old Miners Rescue Station building.

Admitting he'd do whatever it takes for the cause, including potentially running a marathon, Ker now finds himself preparing to honour his word. In a light-hearted video shared on the club's social channels, co-owner Ryan Reynolds teased, "We'll be comfortably watching from a distance. But, you know, we're going to be right beside you in spirit."

Meanwhile, McElhenney quipped: "And we're recording this video chat too so we can post it online and encourage more people to donate, to which Ker queried: "I suppose you're going to film the marathon too? That prompted the "It's Always Sunny" star to respond: "I think we all know the answer to that."

Subsequently, Ker took to Twitter /X to confirm his participation in the marathon, reposting the original message and playfully jabbing at the Wrexham co-owners with: "Look, @WrexhamMiners is a brilliant cause, sure, but making me run a marathon is the work of monsters."

In their dedication to the charity, Reynolds and McElhenney each contributed £26,200, aiming for a £250k target through public donations. As of now, the fundraiser has reached £60,118 with contributions from over 200 individuals.

Later on, the club's executive director also commented: "I can't really think of anything I would like to do less as my principle form of exercise is walking to the petrol station to buy a snickers ice cream, but the opportunity to secure these funds for The Wrexham Miners Project was too good to turn down."

"I have bought a pair of trainers and a huge vat of anti-chafing cream," he revealed, before sharing his hopes for increased support: "If anyone feels inspired by the Chairmen's generosity, all donations gratefully received. £2.62, £26.20, £262 no amount too large or small."

Earlier, Wrexham pledged commitment to the cause: "With many fans, and fan groups, asking the Club for ways that they can help both the Club and the local community, financially, Wrexham AFC Community Trust has set up a JustGiving page, with all of the funds raised going to The Wrexham Miners Project."
