Important Fire TV Stick deadline confirmed with date all users must know (original) (raw)

Fire TV Stick users must be aware of an important new deadline set by Amazon.

Anyone with a Fire TV Stick plugged into the back of their TV might want to be aware of an important Amazon deadline. The US technology company has issued a slew of dates that confirm the timeframe for software support and when security updates may come to an end.

"We’ll support your device with software security updates until at least four years from when you bought it new

"After that time, we may continue to provide software security updates for as long as we can," Amazon confirmed in a post online.

So, when is the date for guaranteed software patches?

Almost all of Amazon's current Fire TV Sticks will continue receiving updates until December 31, 2030. The only exception is the Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Generation) which could see its last release pushed out on December 31, 2029.

BELOW IS FULL TIMELINE FROM AMAZON

Fire TV Stick 4K Select - supported until 31 December 2030

Fire TV Stick 4K Plus - supported until 31 December 2030

Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) - supported until 31 December 2030

As Amazon makes clear, these dates do not mean Fire TV Sticks will become useless once the deadline passes, but it is a guide to when owners may need to consider switching to something new.

The company is also keen to point out that these dates don't mean a Fire TV Stick will definitely last until 2030.

"Please note the update period is not a guarantee as to how long your device will last," Amazon added in its notes.

To find out which Fire TV Stick model you own, simply head to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your device. Here you will see a list including the specific device name and generation.
