Own this iPhone? Apple could make it look massively outdated this week (original) (raw)
Something new is coming from Apple this week.
Some iPhone owners could find their devices look a little inferior later this week. Rumours were already rife that Apple was planning to launch some new devices, and now we know some big things are definitely on their way. In a post on X (formerly Twitter ), Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “A big week ahead. It all starts Monday morning!”
The message was accompanied by a looping video showing a hand sketching the Apple logo on what appears to be a MacBook lid. New laptops could clearly be among the products being shown off, but we're also expecting an update to the iPhone, with the unveiling of a new 17e. This looks set to replace the current iPhone 16e in Apple's lineup. For those not in the know, the iPhone 16e offers plenty of features such as a fast processor, a great camera, wireless charging and a pin-sharp display at a lower price (right now you can grab one for just £499).
The 17e could boost things via faster speeds and also bring MagSafe to this lower-cost call maker, that's something that is missing on the original.
We won't know full details until Apple starts revealing its news, but one expert is confident about what could be on the horizon.
Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, who often gets things spot on, says we are likely to see new iPhone, iPad and Mac models available to order, alongside fresh accessories.
In his most recent newsletter, Gurman claims Apple will introduce “at least five products” between Monday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 4.
This will then be followed by events across the world on Wednesday, March 4, with media being invited to showcases in New York, London and Shanghai.
Along with a cheaper iPhone 17e, Gurman says a new budget-friendly MacBook could arrive and is expected to cost less than the £999 MacBook Air. Reportedly available in bright colours such as yellow, the device may run on an A-series chip typically found in iPhones, rather than Apple’s more powerful M-series processors used in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
The laptop could appeal to buyers looking for a lightweight, everyday machine that won't break the bank.
On the iPad front, rumours suggest the iPad Air will receive an upgrade to the M4 chip, potentially making it one of the most powerful tablets in its price bracket if it remains at £599. The standard iPad may also get a boost, moving from the A16 to the A18 chip. While Apple’s premium iPads boast cutting-edge features, the entry-level model often remains the most practical choice for the majority of users.
Other possible announcements include updated Mac Studio desktops and a new Apple Studio Display.
