Tom Parker Bowles recalls meeting the late Queen

Queen Camilla's son, Tom Parker-Bowles, has spilled the beans on his nerve-wracking encounters with Queen Elizabeth II, confessing he was "so scared" of the formidable monarch.

The 49 year old food writer and critic, who is the offspring of Camilla and her former spouse Andrew Parker-Bowles, divulged details about his meetings with the late Queen while chatting on ITV's This Morning.

During his conversation with presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Tom discussed his latest culinary publication, 'Cooking and the Crown', and even whipped up a dish live on air a regal concoction he dubbed Queen Elizabeth II's curry. He concocted the recipe before the Queen passed away in September 2022, explaining to Ben and Cat, "When I first came up with it, the late Queen was still alive. So I was one step removed."

Tom then let slip that he had only been in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II on two occasions once as a youngster around eight years old, and later at his mother Camilla's nuptials to King Charles in 2005.

He recounted the humorous tale of his childhood encounter: "Having only met her twice, the first time I was about eight and I was so scared, I curtsied wrong," which tickled the This Morning duo, reports the Express.

"And the second time, my sister and I at my mother's wedding. I think we got lost at Windsor Castle and suddenly this very recognisable voice came up behind us. And we were terrified!" he continued.

When Cat probed whether the Queen had scolded him and his sister Laura, aged 46, Tom clarified: "No, but she was the Queen!"

He wrapped up the anecdote by saying the Queen guided him and Laura back to the festivities, with them trailing behind her like awe-struck youngsters: "And we just followed, sort of like children."

Tom's remarks follow his previous statements addressing misconceptions about his mother's fondness for smoking and drinking. He debunked these rumours, suggesting they probably stemmed from Camilla's depiction in the Channel 4 series The Windsors.

"Oh, you know she has that reputation of drinking gin and smoking? Never drunk a glass of gin in her life. Doesn't smoke," he declared.

The 49-year-old also admitted to watching the series, commending actors Harry Enfield and Haydn Gwynne, who portrayed King Charles and Camilla.

Speaking to The Times, Tom added: "Yes. She was really brilliant. But my mother hardly drinks. Never seen her so much as tipsy."
