There was a major twist on EastEnders on Thursday, as a Walford favourite returned from the dead after 18 years - with Joel Beckett reprising his role as Jake Moon.

The character was seemingly killed off offscreen back in 2006, after Johnny Allen's cellmate misunderstood the villain's final words. But after almost two decades of not knowing what happened to Alfie Moon's cousin, the truth was finally revealed.

The fan favourite headed back to Walford very much alive with former flame Chrissie Watts after her prison release - with Chrissie making her own return after 19 years last week. It was revealed they were very much still together, with Jake confirming he had waited for her for all these years.

As the episode on Thursday night came to a close, Chrissie was seen in a flashy car heading to The Queen Vic with a mystery man. It was clear it was Jake but fans were unsure given he'd seemingly died years earlier.

After a cryptic phone call though and with Chrissie being released, she soon reunited with her man as they both headed back to Albert Square. It was only a brief visit, but it was enough to send viewers wild.

Jake stepped out of the car as Chrissie joked about going into the pub for one last time, the place she murdered her husband Den Watts in 2005. Jake told her to get back in the car, ready to start their new lives together as he revealed he'd waited nearly 20 years for this moment.

The pair shared a kiss, before fleeing Walford once more. But now we know Jake is alive and Chrissie is free, could we expect a comeback for the former couple?

Possibly not, as she and former stepdaughter Sharon Watts vowed after their prison reunion they would stay apart. Sharon helped Chrissie get her freedom in the end, with Chrissie evidently grateful days after planning her revenge on her.

Chrissie suggested they meet up in the future, but Sharon said they agreed to never see each other again. Some viewers were eager to see Chrissie and Jake head back to Walford for good though, while it seems the comebacks were only temporary.
