Married At First Sight UK star faces huge punishment for appearing on show

A Birmingham RAF serviceman, set to star in the new series of Married At First Sight UK, was jailed after going AWOL to appear on the show. Alex Henry, 28, is participating in the E4 series.

Henry abandoned his post at an electronic warfare base to seek love on the dating programme. Upon his return, he was arrested by military police and sentenced to a 34-day stint in a military prison, serving 24 days before being discharged from service.

The groom had requested additional leave to appear on the show, but his request was turned down. A spokesperson for Henry said: "He returned after filming of his own volition and handed himself into the military authorities. He was sentenced to 34 days in a military prison and served 24 as a model inmate."

After three successful series, two BAFTA nominations and even a baby, the upcoming fourth series promises the usual blend of love, romance and drama, with a fresh batch of brave singles ready to say "I do'" at the altar to a complete stranger.

The MAFS UK hopeful has got off to a terrible start

Henry, 28, who also works as a personal trainer, expressed his wish to shed his 'man about town' image in search of a lasting relationship in a promo for the new show. This isn't the first controversy he's stirred up; a group of women banded together to petition Channel 4 to reconsider airing scenes featuring the personal trainer from Birmingham, and even reached out to celebrity dating expert Mel Schilling.

The accusers have reportedly handed over evidence backing their claims to Channel 4. Although the broadcaster recognised the allegations, Channel 4 has declared that Alex will not be cut from the show.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 commented: "MAFS UK contributors are subject to rigorous background vetting, including multiple independent psychological evaluations and a criminal record check before they can be cleared to take part. We cast contributors based on the information we are legally able to access and we continue to review this process to ensure checks are as thorough as legally possible."

Joining the lineup along with Alex are Adam, a 31 year old barber from Nottingham; Caspar, aged 34, undertaking Head Gardener duties; Newcastle's Kieran, 28, who works as a mechanic; Somerset-based Nathan, 24, an engineer; Orson, 41, in the role of a project engineer; and Manchesters Ross, a 32 year old painter and decorator.

On the other side, there's Emma, a 31 year old sales manager hailing from Bristol; Holly, aged 29, working as a beautician; Kristina, 31, who walks dogs for a living; Lacey, a 27 year old office manager; Polly, a 28 year old career advisor stationed in Kent; Richelle, 48, positioned as Head of Alternative Investments; and Sacha, 29, specialising as an aesthetics practitioner.
