This Morning: Cat and Ben open the show with festive theme

It appeared as though things were off to a bumpy start at the beginning of Wednesday's episode of This Morning.

As the ITV show kicked off, viewers saw hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley sitting by the kitchen while she appeared to be fiddling with a piece of technical equipment. Ben said: "We had a rogue earpiece go AWOL as we came on air."

She replied: "It did! And the avocado has rolled off. I mean, it doesn't bode well ladies and gents! You may want to buckle up and get ready to come with us on this flight."

Her co-host cheekily told her to control things before they informed people what was coming up ahead.

However, it seemed as though Cat's earpiece wasn't the only issue the show had as eagle-eyed viewers noticed another error. Before speaking to their first guest, former Bake Off star Matt Lucas, the two presenters took part in an unusual segment.

Cat informed fans that apparently, thousands of Brits have sustained injuries from avocados each year. Wondering if there was a safe way to handle and store the food in question, the programme headed to a man called Mark Babbins in Folkestone.

However, the name of the town appeared to be spelt incorrectly, with the letter 'e' missing. It wasn't long before people watching were quick to take to Twitter, with many unimpressed with the mistake.

One person said: "I thought it was FolkEstone…" Another reeled: "You have spelt my town's name wrong. It is FOLKESTONE." Pointing out the blunder, someone else wrote: "Folkstone." "Where is 'Folkstone'?" asked someone else.

People were quick to notice the error

During the segment, Mark was demonstrating how to cut an avocado safely. Ben asked if he could do it again as he commented: "A lot of people stab themselves while trying to get the stone out.

"Can you slowly do the stone bit again? I've seen, one of our chefs has done this for us in the past, that's where I've learnt how to do it and that's the secret to not stabbing yourself."

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
