Strictly Come Dancing's Kai Widdrington has opened up about his disappointment at not being able to compete in the new series.

The professional dancer revealed that he won't be paired with a celebrity this time around, meaning fans will only catch glimpses of him in group performances. Speaking to the Daily Star, Kai expressed his feelings: "Everyone wants to get a celebrity. Unfortunately, it wasn't my time this series. Two boys couldn't have one this series and sadly I am one of them."

"Some of us don't get partners and that's the way it is. Let's see what happens next year. Hopefully I'll get one then." Despite the setback, Kai is still pumped for the upcoming series, which is set to premiere this weekend on BBC One, reports the Daily Star. He teased that the show is going to be unmissable, saying: "The line-up of celebs this year is amazing. It is going to be a fantastic series, as it always is."

"We have been filming a lot of the group routines. There are some amazing ones. We have worked really hard through the summer to get them ready for the series. One of the ones I feature in is very funny." Kai left an indelible mark on last year's series when he danced with Angela Rippon, who became the oldest contestant ever. Their performances captivated audiences, and their partnership turned into a genuine friendship.

Kai reminisced: "No one expected Angela to be so brilliant. We used that to our advantage and utilised our assets. We are still the best of friends. She is a mate." Strictly enthusiasts are heartbroken over Kai not being paired with a celebrity this season. One fan expressed their disappointment, tweeting: "Gutted Kai isn't getting a partner this year. He's an absolute sweetheart and surely is a great ambassador for #Strictly after the recent controversies".
