This Morning: Dianne's dad though Chris wouldn't last long on Strictly

Chris McCausland has made history as the first blind man to star in Strictly Come Dancing, becoming a favourite among fans - but many didn't think he would be as successful.

The Liverpool-born comedian has strutted on to the dancefloor with professional partner Dianne Buswell in September, and the pair have since blown both judges and BBC One viewers away. Chris McCausland even managed to avoid elimination last week as Toyal Willcox and Tom Dean were both involved in the 2024 series' first dance-off.

However, during a chat with This Morning's Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, both Chris and Dianne told the ITV golden duo that some individuals around them weren't convinced they'd last longer than they have on the competition, mostly due to the comedian's retinitis pigmentosa, which caused him to be blind.

Dianne notably said that her father didn't believe she would remain in the competition for very long when Ben asked her if he had been disappointed with her new dancing partner: "He definitely wasn't disappointed but I think, along with a lot of other people, they kind of thought, 'you're going to have a lovely time but it might not last that long.' Because we just didn't know how it was all going to work."

However, Dianne's father Mark, who lives in Australia, has since "changed his tune" as she added: "He thinks that Chris is going to be there, they're coming over in November. But he's convinced he's going to watch us live dance. He's absolutely loving it. He calls me almost every (day)."

This comes after Chris impressed viewers again with a Foxtrot to Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy. But following his performance, the comedian called out a huge error on the popular BBC show.

Chris humorously claimed he was at a disadvantage due to his dance coinciding with Liverpool FC's match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. The comic took to the dance floor in the final moments as Arne Slot's team secured a 2 - 1 victory to top the table.

Claudia Winkleman couldn't help but laugh when she asked Chris about his feelings post-dance, to which he replied: "I'm not happy to be honest as they've put me on 10 minutes before the Liverpool game ends. That's half of Liverpool watching the football, that's half of my core voter group."

Despite his concerns over timing, Chris delivered a stellar performance that wowed the judges and earned him a high score of 29 from the panel, including Shirley Ballas, [Motsi Mabuse](http://Motsi Mabuse), Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke.
