Daniel Adam Cortes (core-TESS)...resides in Pomona, CA...graduated from Garey High in Pomona...went 5-4 with a 1.63 ERA during his senior season...originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 7th round of the 2005 June draft.

2011

Had 2 stints with the Mariners, April 25-May 13 & July 30-remainder of the season...On 15-day disabled list Aug. 23-Sept. 8 with a bruised left ankle...made 2 rehab appearances with Tacoma...Suffered a non-displaced fracture of the third metacarpal in his right hand on Sept. 15 (offfield incident) and missed the remainder of the season...Tied career-high with 2.0 shutout innings pitched in consecutive outings Aug. 15 & Aug. 17 vs. Toronto...Threw 1.0 scoreless inning in season debut May 7 vs. Chicago (AL)...was on active roster from April 25-May 14, but made only one appearance...Began the season with AAA Tacoma...recalled on April 25 (Lueke optioned)...In 32 appearances with AAA Tacoma was 1-2 with 3 saves and 5.08 ERA (22 ER, 39.0 IP) with 29 walks and 46 strikeouts...averaged 10.61 K/9.0 IP.

2009

Started the season with NW Arkansas (AA) in the Royals organization...Acquired by Seattle along with Derrick Saito (LHP) in exchange for Yuniesky Betancourt on July 10...assigned to West Tenn (AA) in the Southern League...Went 6-6 with 3.92 ERA (35 ER, 80.1 IP) in 16 G/15 GS with NW Arkansas prior to trade...Went 6-2 over final 9 appearances after opening season 0-4...posted a 3.28 ERA (17 ER, 46.2 IP) during that stretch...Went 1-5, 4.94 in 10 starts with West Tenn...averaged 9.05 K/9.0 IP...Recorded 5 or more strikeouts in 7 of 10 starts, including 24 over final 3 starts...Had strong finish to the season, posting a 2.70 ERA (9 ER, 30.0 IP) over his final 5 starts to lower ERA from 7.66 to 4.94...Participated in the MLB Rookie Career Development workshop in Dallas in January...Rated by Baseball America as the Mariners No. 9 prospect heading into the 2010 season.

2008

Received the Paul Splittorff Pitcher of the Year Award, recognizing the top pitcher in the Royals organization...finished T3rd in the Texas League in wins and 6th in ERA...won 8 of 9 decisions following the All-Star break including final 6 decisions...was 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 6 starts down the stretch for NW Arkansas (AA), leading the squad to the 2nd-half title...pitched for the Surprise Rafters in the Arizona Fall League following the season...rated as the 3rd-best Royals prospect by Baseball America entering the 2009 season and as the Royals top pitching prospect.

2007

Spent entire season with Wilmington...went 6-2 with a 2.06 ERA in his final 10 starts...earned Carolina Pitcher of the Week honors in consecutive weeks to wrap up the season...named 2nd-best prospect in the Royals system and also named as having the Best Fastball and Best Curveball in the Royals minor league system.

2006

Started season with Kannapolis (A), going 3-9 with 4.01 ERA in 20 G/19 GS...traded to Kansas City on July 24...joined Burlington and went 1-2, 6.69 in 7 starts.

2005

Made professional debut with Bristol in the Appalachian League...earned first professional win Aug. 13 vs. Greenville.
