The city of Salinas is offering to purchase and plant a tree in front of residences if the residents agree to care for it. (City of Salinas)

The program is part of Salinas’ goal to have tree cover for at least 25% of the city–the national average for city tree canopy coverage. Currently, Salinas has less than 8% tree coverage, which the city says is dropping even lower due to storms and other challenges.
