Children's Library Expansion Project | Murrieta, CA (original) (raw)

Updated July 2024

The Murrieta Public Library is embarking on a transformative journey with its expansion project, responding to the escalating demand for library services, particularly among the youth. At the core of this endeavor is the creation of a dedicated Storytime Area and the expansion of the adjacent Children's Library section. The Storytime room will emerge as a vibrant hub for children's programming, fostering early literacy skills and nurturing a love for reading.

Simultaneously, the remodel and expansion of the Children's library will seamlessly connect with the Storytime area, alleviating space constraints and programming limitations. This multifaceted project also encompasses the expansion of the children's collection, incorporating innovative and flexible spaces and modern equipment to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment.

As Murrieta and Riverside County experience significant population growth, this expansion project is poised to meet the evolving needs of the community, providing essential resources and spaces for the city's flourishing youth. The Murrieta Public Library Foundation is coordinating fundraising efforts for the project.

At the June 18, 2024 City Council meeting, the Council affirmed the preliminary design, budget and funding mechanisms for the project. Now, staff will work with the architect to get a complete, detailed design and bid package ready for publication in Spring 2025.
