Dick’s Sporting Goods opening at Great Lakes Mall (original) (raw)
Dick’s Sporting Goods of Mentor will mark the opening of its new location this week.
A grand ‘reopening’ event will begin at 9 a.m. May 31 at Great Lakes Mall. The store relocated there from Creekside Commons after completing a 55,000-square-foot addition to the east side of the mall, between J.C. Penney’s and Macy’s.
‘It’s always exciting to announce a well-known retailer coming to Great Lakes Mall,’ said Renee Sanden, director of marketing and business development. ‘The addition of Dick’s Sporting Goods will increase the choices for our guests and improve their overall shopping experience.’
The new store includes expanded brand shops, a running center with a local event schedule; a women’s studio apparel department; soccer, lacrosse and baseball shops; an expanded youth footwear section and an improved checkout experience, store representatives said in a news release.
Guests in line early on the 31st will receive a combination for a chance to open the Dick’s Sporting Goods Gift Locker at 8:45 a.m.
‘We’re pleased to be opening an expanded and enhanced Dick’s Sporting Goods in Mentor, which will enable us to better serve the needs of athletes in the community,’ said Lauren Hobart, the company’s senior vice president & chief marketing officer.
Founded in 1948, Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. operates more than 565 locations across the United States. The company is based in Coraopolis, Pa.
‘The opening brings a new, larger store to the community,’ Mentor Economic Development Director Ronald M. Traub said. ‘Being located at Great Lakes Mall gives shoppers an opportunity to purchase sporting goods under one roof with other goods and services as well as enhancing the mall as a destination.’
The relocation also made way for a new retailer to come to town, he added. Gordmans department store will fill the vacancy left by Dick’s at Creekside Commons.
The store is scheduled to open sometime next year.
