Shedeur Sanders Getting Heavy Interest From NFL Team in Line for No. 1 Pick (original) (raw)

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been improving his NFL Draft stock this season, earning some heavy interest from a team that could be in line for the No. 1 overall pick.

Sanders led Colorado to a 49-24 win over Utah on Saturday, moving the Buffaloes to 8-2 and putting them within striking distance of a berth in the new 12-team College Football Playoff. If the Buffaloes win their two remaining regular-season games, they will play for the Big 12 title on Dec. 7 and would earn a playoff spot with a win.

Sanders rebounded after an early interception on Saturday, completing 30 of 41 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns.

The game may have been important for Sanders' NFL hopes as well. In a post on Blue Sky, NFL reporter Benjamin Allbright noted that the New York Giants have been showing significant interest in Sanders and sent some of the top brass to their game on Saturday.

"One team doing a lot of pre-draft work on Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders...the NY Giants GM Joe Schoen and director of player personnel Tim McDonnell are in attendance at today's Colorado-Utah game, the second time they've viewed him in person this season."

The Giants are currently tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the NFL's worst record, giving them a strong chance of earning the No. 1 overall pick.

Some NFL draft analysts see the Giants as a likely landing spot for Sanders. USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz that the Giants would take the Colorado quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick, noting that the Giants seem ready to move on from Daniel Jones.

"Should Big Blue pursue another football blue blood, the pairing could be fruitful for each side," he wrote. "With coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen expected to return in 2025, the Giants would be able to turn the page on Daniel Jones' tenure by installing a poised passer who can dice defenses apart with precision strikes from the pocket."
