Freedom 250 events list after Trump’s Great American State Fair Is adjusted (original) (raw)

The Great American State Fair—originally planned as a 16-day concert-heavy celebration tied to the Freedom 250 initiative—has been reshaped after multiple artists dropped out, with President Donald Trump now set to headline with a major speech instead.

Despite the change to its entertainment lineup, the broader fair and Freedom 250 events will continue across Washington, D.C., and beyond, organizers say. The festival still includes daily themed programming, exhibits and nationwide celebrations marking the U.S. 250th anniversary.

Here’s a breakdown of the major upcoming events and what to expect.

What is Freedom 250?

Freedom 250 is a government-backed initiative coordinating events tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The program includes large-scale public celebrations, exhibitions and national gatherings designed to mark the milestone.

It operates alongside—but separately from—America250, a congressionally created bipartisan nonprofit overseeing the official semiquincentennial observance.

He added that the rally will feature the U.S. Army Band, the U.S. Marine Band and the Joint Armed Forces Chorus.

Why Did Artists Back Out of the Great American State Fair?

Several performers withdrew shortly after the concert lineup was announced, with some citing concerns that the event had become more political than initially described.

At least five acts publicly backed out, including Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, while others said they were not aware of any political ties when they agreed to perform. Rapper Vanilla Ice said he still wanted to perform, while country artist John Rich signaled he would be willing to join the Freedom 250 event after multiple artists withdrew.

Following the cancellations, Trump moved to replace portions of the lineup with a speech and rally-style appearance, reshaping the entertainment portion of the fair.

Freedom 250 vs. America 250: What’s the Difference?

Freedom 250 and America250 are separate organizations planning events around the same 250th anniversary.

America250 is the official nonprofit tied to the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, created by Congress to oversee national celebrations.

Freedom 250, by contrast, is a White House-backed initiative created under the Trump administration as a public-private partnership to fund and stage major events like the state fair.

When is the Freedom 250 UFC Event?

The Freedom 250 UFC event is scheduled for Sunday, June 14, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House, with main card fights planned for the evening and weigh-ins the day before.

The event—expected to host around 5,000 attendees on-site with tens of thousands more nearby—will involve a full arena-style build, complete with an Octagon, staging and extensive infrastructure in one of the most recognizable outdoor spaces in the United States. The show is reportedly costing around $60 million overall.
