AT 5 AM EDT...0900 UTC...THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS EXTENDED NORTH OF FERNANDINA BEACH FLORIDA TO EDISTO BEACH SOUTH CAROLINA. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM NORTH OF JUPITER INLET FLORIDA TO EDISTO BEACH SOUTH CAROLINA.

AT 5 AM EDT...0900 UTC...A HURRICANE WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT NORTH OF EDISTO BEACH TO CAPE HATTERAS NORTH CAROLINA...INCLUDING THE PAMLICO SOUND.

TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST COAST FROM JUPITER INLET SOUTHWARD...INCLUDING LAKE OKEECHOBEE.

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI AND GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND.

ALL INTEREST ELSEWHERE ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST COAST SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION UNTIL WINDS AND SEAS SUBSIDE.

AT 5 AM EDT...0900Z...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IRENE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 27.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 80.2 WEST OR ABOUT 15 MILES SOUTHEAST OF FT. PIERCE FLORIDA.

IRENE IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST NEAR 10 MPH...AND A GRADUAL TURN TO THE NORTH IS EXPECTED TODAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 75 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN STRENGTH ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 70 MILES FROM THE CENTER...MAINLY TO THE EAST OF THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175 MILES. VERO BEACH FLORIDA REPORTED A GUST TO 63 MPH DURING THE PAST HOUR.

THE LATEST MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE REPORTED BY AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS 986 MB...29.12 INCHES.

A STORM SURGE OF 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS IS STILL POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF THE WARNING AREA IN AREAS OF ONSHORE FLOW.

ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS OF 4 TO 6 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS...ARE LIKELY NEAR THE PATH OF IRENE.

REPEATING THE 5 AM EDT POSITION...27.4 N... 80.2 W. MOVEMENT TOWARD...NORTH NORTHEAST NEAR 10 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS... 75 MPH. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE... 986 MB.
