Jimmy Barnes has a no 1 album on the way thanks to Red Hot Summer previews - Noise11.com (original) (raw)

Jimmy Barnes is previewing five new songs from his upcoming ‘My Criminal Record’ album. Based on audience reaction on the Red Hot Summer tour, he has another number one album on the way.

For those of you who saw the spoken word ‘Working Class Man’ tour of 2018, you’ll know how much Jimmy cherishes that number one debut … (ie: Its not what he ever aims for). Well Jimmy, you’re about to get another one whether you like it or not ☺

‘Working Class Boy’ and ‘Working Class Man’ exorcised Jimmy’s demons. ‘My Criminal Record’ has cleared his head and refocused him on what he does best … making great rock and roll.

The newly calibrated Barnes kicks into high gear immediately with the new song ‘I’m In A Bad Mood’. Later in the set the Don Walker penned ‘My Criminal Record’ is classic Chisel ’19 Barnes solo style. Chris Cheney has astro-travelled out of The Living End to create ‘I Won’t Let You Down’, a song perfectly designed for Barnes and band. ‘Shutting Down Our Town’, a song about the Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth where Jimmy grew up, conjures up the same hometown sentiment as the more sombre ‘Largs Pier Hotel’ from the last Barnes album of original material ‘Rage and Ruin’ almost nine years ago.

The musical turn-around at this show isn’t even told in a Barnes song. The fury of Lennon’s ‘Working Class Man’ is the emotional cleanser that bridges the exit for the ghost of Barnes past to rejoin the present.

There are so few great rock bands since Chisel. The exception is The Living End (circa 1994-present) who may just very well be Australia’s last great rock band. It is fitting that Chris Cheney and Jimmy Barnes crossover on this record.

‘My Criminal Record’ is one great album we can look forward to in 2019. It arrives May, 2019. You can pre-order your copy at the Red Hot Summer merch tent and get an autographed Jimmy poster there on the spot.
