The Church song ‘Too Fast For You’ rarely makes it to the band’s compilation albums, it is not available on streaming services and Steve Kilbey has no idea why.
“I wouldn’t know what’s on Spotify or not,” Steve tells Noise11.com.
‘Too Fast For You’ was from a 1981 E.P. and grabbed a lot of airplay in its day at the start of commercial FM radio in Australia via Triple M in Sydney and what was then called EON-FM in Melbourne.
“That songs just a very minor song,” Steve says. “It was like me having a crack at rewriting ‘The Unguarded Moment’. ‘Oh, it that what people like? I’ll just knock out another little pop song in that ilk. It’s a nice song but its not a major statement or anything. I wouldn’t mind dragging it out and giving it a good kicking again”.
“You think of it. We have over 400 songs,” Steve says. “We can play maybe 15 songs, 19 or 20 at the very most, and theres only 300 or 400 songs that The Church have put out. Its really hard to know what you can do or can’t do”
The Church will perform with Icehouse, Do-Re-Mi, The Sunnyboys and Mental As Anything on the By The C shows of 2019. “We’re all still standing. For Do Re Mi coming to play at a Festival when you haven’t played for awhile will be a lot of pressure. I did the Bowie tribute shows with Deborah Conway. She is an incredible performer. It won’t matter about the band so much. She’ll nail it. She has charisma,” says Kilbey.
The Church also have more US plans for 2019. “We are going to America again and doing these Church conventions. We did one in London. It was really successful”.
