WSF World Masters 2024 (original) (raw)

Congratulations to Ken Johnson, who finished an excellent 4th in the MO80s at the World Squash Federation World Masters 2024.

The biennial event, held in Amsterdam for this year’s edition, hosted the best men’s and women’s players from around the world in categories from O35s to O80s.

Ken was seeded 3/4 in the MO80’s event and received a bye in the round of 32, followed by a comfortable 3-0 win against his Scottish opponent in round 2.

In the QF Ken faced American 5/8 seed Christopher Tatum, in a back-and-forth encounter Ken finally came out the victor 11-8 in the 5th to seal in place in the semis.

Unfortunately, in the semi-final, Ken was beaten 3-0 by the event #1 seed Howard Armitage (Canada) and dropped to the 3rd/4th playoff, but still with a chance to finish on the podium.

In his final match playing for the bronze, Ken faced South African Pieter Swart who got out to a quick 2-0 lead. Ken battled back to level things at 2-2, but fell agonisingly short of 3rd place losing a tiebreaker, 12-10, in the 5th.
