Our junior county champions were crowned last weekend, as over 50 juniors joined us at Northern Squash to play for the titles.
BU11
1st – Freddie Gilberg
2nd – Harry McBride
3rd – Archer Robson
It was a welcome return for the BU11 event, which wasn’t held last year. Freddie and Harry topped the 2 round-robin groups to meet in the final, but Freddie took the title 3-0, while Rory Pearsall won the 3rd/4th playoff.
GU11
1st – Salma Barkouk
2nd – Charlotte Robertson
3rd – Dua Ali Saleem
It was a brilliant weekend for Salma Barkouk, who beat the #3/4 seed, #2 seed and #1 seed all without dropping a game to win the GU11’s event.
BU13
1st – James Southern
2nd – William Brocklehurst
3rd – Magnus McKay
James Southern defended his BU13 title beating William Brocklehurst in a repeat of last year’s final. Magnus clinched 3rd place, beating Huey Lamb 11-9 in the 5th.
GU13
1st – Emma Little
2nd – Elizabeth Muldoon-Smith
3rd – Hannah Tufton
Emma is another who retained their 2023 title, defeating Elizabeth 3-0 in the final, while Hannah Tufton won bronze beating Alice Pearsall 3-1.
BU15
1st – Charlie Armstrong
2nd – Joseph Brocklehurst
3rd – Thomas Oliver
We crowned a new winner in the Boys U15, as #2 seed Charlie Armstrong upset the seedings to beat top seed Joseph Brocklehurst in the final.
GU15
1st – Rebecca Little
2nd – Freya Finnemore
3rd – Lucy Ulyatt
Another title defence, this time for Rebecca Little in the girls U15, beating all her opponents 3-0 to become champion again.
BU17
1st – Duncan Rutherford
2nd – Sam Tufton
3rd – Aidan Mahoney
Duncan continues his dominance in the junior county closed, winning his 4th title in as many years, and his first BU17 title, beating defending champion Sam Tufton in the final.
GU17
1st – Ava Naisbitt
2nd – Isla Cook
Ava Naisbitt beat Isla Cook 3-0 in the final to win her first GU17 title, after losing in last year’s final.
GU19
1st – Shae Paterson
2nd – Evie Paterson
3rd – Katherine Palmer
Shae won her inaugural GU19 title at the 1st time of asking, giving her 5 junior county titles since 2017.
