Northumbria Summer League 2024 Play-offs – Results (original) (raw)

The Northumbria Squash Summer League 2024 Play-offs took place at Tynemouth on Saturday 14th September.

The top four from division one were invited to the play-offs with Eldon 1 winning the league overall.

Unfortunately Northern Juniors 1 could not take part so Nothern 1 stepped in to take their place.

This meant that Eldon 1 vs Northern 1 and Westoe 1 vs Northumbria University 1 fought it out to see who made it to the Final.

Eldon 1 Northern 1
4. Adam Coates Drew Patterson 3-2 (14/15, 15/11, 7/15, 15/5, 15/12)
3. Andrew Webber Joel Birch-Machin 3-0 (15/11, 15/14, 15/11)
2. Guy Eniona Andy Gibson 0-3 (14/15, 7/15, 7/15)
1. Rajat Kumar Dylan Newton 3-2 (10/15, 15/13, 15/9, 13/15, 15/14)

Eldon 1 winning 9 games to 7. It all went down to the #1’s with Raj holding his nerve in the 5th game otherwise it would have been the dreaded count up of points won! We won’t mention Guy’s down the middle serve on 14/14…

Westoe 1 Newcastle University 1
4. Brian Fascoine Emily King 0-3 (3/15, 7/15, 7/15)
3. Stephen Boyer Emma Turnbull 3-1 (15/13, 11/15, 15/4, 15/9)
2. Paul Little Jim Burns 3-1 (15/13, 15/9, 11/15, 15/9)
1. Ryan Hall Daniel Sarkissian 3-0 (15/6, 15/6, 15/7)

Westoe 1 winning 9 games to 5. Stephen Bowyer giving a fantastic display of volley nicks in his last 2 games.

This took us through to the final with Eldon 1 vs Westoe 1. Northern 1 and Newcastle University 1 decided not to play the 3rd/4th place play-off.

Westoe 1 Eldon 1
4. Brian Fascione Adam Coates 0-3 (9/15, 12/15, 13/15)
3. Stephen Bowyer Andrew Webber 0-3 (9/15, 12/15, 11/15)
2. Paul Little Guy Eniona 1-3 (15/14, 2/3 retired injured)
1. Ryan Hall Rajat Kumar 3-2 (15/14, 15/4, 14/15, 15/6)

Eldon 1 took a 2 match lead (6 games to nil) and this left them needing only a single game to clinch the championship. Ryan and Raj started before the #2 strings and Raj failed to win the 1st game after clawing back to 14 all. Raj lost the next game convincingly. Paul and Guy started similarly with Guy losing at 14 all, at least he didn’t serve down the middle this time! Ryan and Raj got to 14 all again with Raj just managing to get over the line. At almost the same time Paul had to retire injured leaving Eldon 1 wih a comfortable win in the end.

Eldon1 winning 10 games to 4.

MVP of the day went to Ryan Hall winning both of his matches.
