Jennifer Elizabeth Ringo, an opera singer, and James J. Conlon, a conductor, were married at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York yesterday. The Rev. Joseph F. Buckley performed the ceremony.
Mrs. Conlon, who will retain her name professionally, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert W. Ringo of Iowa City. Her husband is a son of Mrs. Joseph Conlon of New York and the late Mr. Conlon.
The bride, a soprano who has sung with opera companies in this country and in Europe, has also appeared in concert at Lincoln Center. She graduated from the University of Iowa, where her father is a retired professor of Spanish, and attended the Juilliard School. Her mother, Georgina Ringo, is a retired Spanish teacher.
The bridegroom, who is music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Cincinnati May Festival, has been named the chief conductor of the Cologne Opera beginning with the 1989-90 season. He has appeared as a guest conductor with the New York Philharmonic since 1974, and has conducted at the Metropolitan Opera since 1976. Mr. Conlon graduated from the Fiorello H. La Guardia High School of Music and the Arts and from Juilliard. His mother, Angeline L. Conlon, is a freelance writer. His father was an assistant to the New York City Commissioner of Labor in the Robert F. Wagner administration.
