Leon Searcy, a ninth-year Pro Bowl offensive right tackle, could be out for the season after tearing a tendon above his right knee during practice yesterday.
The injury came during one-on-one drills at the start of morning practice at training camp in Jacksonville, Fla. Searcy will need surgery.
The Jaguars said Searcy had a significant tear of the quadriceps tendon. The team did not say how long he would be out, but bad tears of the quadriceps can take up to nine months to heal.
Searcy has missed only two games since 1992 and only one since he joined the Jaguars in 1996. The game he missed in Jacksonville was because of an infected thumb.
Searcy protects the left-handed quarterback Mark Brunell's blind side and is widely considered one of the best blockers in the game.
CAROLINA
Defensive tackle Eric Swann followed Reggie White to Carolina, signing a one-year deal with the Panthers yesterday.
