Portrait of Adam Satariano

I’m a technology reporter for The New York Times, based in London.

What I Cover

I cover digital policy and the intersection of technology and world affairs, focusing mainly on what’s happening outside the United States. I’m drawn to global stories and investigative projects about technology’s role in geopolitics, as well as other surprising ways tech is being used by governments, companies and individuals to shape the way we live and work.

My Background

I have been a journalist for more than 20 years and have covered technology for more than half that time. Before joining The Times in 2018, I worked at Bloomberg News for 11 years, first in San Francisco and then in London, covering technology, environmental issues and the entertainment industry. I started my career in Washington, D.C., working for Congressional Quarterly.

I’m originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Journalistic Ethics

All Times journalists are committed to upholding the high standards outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. I do not accept gifts, money or favors from those in any way related to my reporting. I do not pay people for information. I don’t have any direct financial interest in anything that I cover. I do not support or give money to political causes.

My goal is to tell nuanced stories carefully and accurately. I want the people and institutions I write about to feel they were treated in a fair, honest and straightforward manner. An essential part of my job is to verify information with multiple sources and documentation. I want to understand issues from multiple perspectives. If I get something wrong, I correct it. I take very seriously my responsibility to protect all sources who trust me with information, particularly those who speak with me confidentially.
