Forward Erich Habitzl was a member of the Austrian football team at the 1948 London Olympics. They lost their first-round match 3-0 to the eventual gold medallists Sweden. In total, he won 11 international caps and scored five goals.

At club level, Habitzl played with SK Admira Wien (Vienna) (1940-54). He helped Admira win both the Austrian Championships and the Austrian Cup in 1947. He then moved to France to play with RC Lens (1954-56), and FC Nantes (1956-57). Habitzl then returned to Admira to play until 1960. In 1949, he was the top scorer in the Austrian League.
