German flatwater canoeist Torsten Gutsche partnered Kay Bluhm and won three Olympic gold medals and one silver at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. The two represented their country in the kayak doubles in both 500 and 1,000 metres. Gutsche also won 11 World Championship gold medals in the K2 and the K4, and additionally won five silvers and four bronzes to make him one of the most successful canoeists ever.
Gutsche was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He also received the TV media prize _BAMBI in 1992. He was one of the most successful German male flatwater canoeists ever.
