Biography

Ivar Böhling made his international début at the 1912 Olympic Games where, after winning five matches in Greco-Roman light-heavyweight, he advanced to the final round to face the home favorite, Andres Ahlgren. The final began at 9:20 in the morning and continued for nine hours, with no decision. The three judges then ruled the match a double loss and, as there was no winner, a gold medal was not awarded, and Ahlgren and Böhling were declared co-silver medalists. After the Olympics Böhling competed at the 1914 Unofficial European Championships, where he won gold as a light-heavyweight, but then turned professional in 1916 and wrestled professionally until 1920. At the Finnish Championships, Böhling won four titles: in light-heavyweight in 1911/1913 and heavyweight in 1915 and 1916.
