Partners Bank Donates to Markathon, Benefiting The Center for Grieving Children (original) (raw)

Portland, ME – Once again, Partners Bank was thrilled to support 94.3 WCYY’s Markathon with a $5,000 donation. For eight years, the Bank has been donating to this unique and fun initiative created by Mark Curdo, On-Air Talent and Radio Host, to raise funds for The Center for Grieving Children.

This year, Markathon raised a record-breaking $71,000. Between December 2-7, non-stop song requests flooded the station’s phone line, and Curdo happily played those songs in exchange for donations for the Center. Although 94.3 WCYY is a rock/alternative station, for those five days, the airwaves transformed into a melting pot of whimsical music – no song was off limits. Song requests ranged from the Power Rangers Theme Song to “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers, which was the most requested song during Markathon.

Even Deb Mullen, VP & Marketing Director of Partners Bank, jumped in on the excitement by requesting the classic “Blue Christmas” by Elvis Presley. As a Jimmy Buffett fan, she also requested “Ho Ho Ho & a Bottle of Rhum” by the late tropical rock artist.

To raise that amount of money, Curdo became fully dedicated to the cause by locking himself in the studio, rolling out a sleeping mat, and living there for over 125 hours. He functioned on food dropped off by supportive clients, friends, and coworkers and minimal sleep.

Thanks to Curdo’s impressive creativity and enthusiasm to help The Center for Grieving Children no matter what the conditions, Markathon has raised over $870,000 for the Center since its inception in December 2008.

The Center for Grieving Children is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Portland, ME. They focus on helping children, teenagers, and their families grieve the loss of their loved ones. Processing feelings of loss is tough, especially for children and teenagers who are still emotionally and mentally developing and need guidance during difficult times. The Center offers their services free of charge, as they understand that the loss of a loved one is not only an emotional burden but also a financial one.

Partners Bank is happy to continue the partnership with 94.3 WCYY and their mission to support The Center for Grieving Children. This year’s $5,000 donation from the Bank will help the Center continue to work with grieving children to discover and develop their own resilience and emotional well-being by offering free peer support, outreach, and education.
