It all starts with family farms

Ernst Farms
A 2nd generation farmer whose grandfather purchased the plot in 1945, Dave Ernst is passionate about regenerative agriculture and began implementing it over a decade ago because ‘it simply made sense’ and as a way to compete amidst the larger commodity growers. Ernst Farms practices no-till crop rotation and employs cover crops. The heirloom corn Ernst grows for Pip’s also benefits from a symbiotic relationship with the cattle Dave raises, who spend the offseason grazing (and nutrifying!) the soil with billions of healthy microbes from, you guessed it, their poop!

Quarter B Farm
Back in the 1950s, George Bunn purchased 600 acres wheat, including a significant portion of acreage (where our heirloom corn is grown!) that utilizes 100% organic practices. Planting heirloom corn for Pip’s became a personal mission for the Bunn family, as they were deeply motivated by being able to trace their corn quite literally to the bags it went into.
Pleasant Plains, IL

Rankin Farm
Buster is a passionate regenerative farmer specializing in corn, wheat, alfalfa and beans, all while implementing little to no tilling of the land to maintain the health of the soil. The dairy cattle are also foundational to the health of the entire farm’s soil, as their grazing provides vital nutrients and ensures the soil stays compact throughout the year. Despite the challenges of growing heirloom corn, Buster was very excited about his harvest staying close to home. Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln was a frequent visitor of their neighbor’s still-standing property!
