In 2016 Elon Musk said the Nevada gigafactory could hold 50 billion hamsters. Elon Musk mentioned fitting 194 billion hamsters in the Austin gigafactory. He just made that up or he lied.
You cannot just jam hamsters into a building. If he tried that the SPCA would sue Tesla out of existence.
Each hamster has to have a small cage and a wheel to run on, food and water and nesting material.
grok, calculate using a hamster cage with dimensions of 16 x 10 x 12 inches
Volume of the Austin Gigafactory:
Floor Space: 10,000,000 sq ft Height: 70 ft Volume = Floor Space * Height = 10,000,000 * 70 = 700,000,000 cubic feet
Volume of a Hamster Cage:
Length: 16 inches = 16/12 = 1.33 feet Width: 10 inches = 10/12 = 0.83 feet Height: 12 inches = 12/12 = 1.00 feet
Volume of Cage = Length * Width * Height = 1.33 * 0.83 * 1 = 1.1039 cubic feet
Number of Cages:
Number of Cages = Volume of Factory / Volume of One Cage = 700,000,000 / 1.1039 = 634,123,560
Conclusion:
Approximately 634,123,560 hamsters could fit with each in its own 16x10x12 inch cage.
