Former Naughty Dog developer and Uncharted legend Amy Hennig is heading up a new games studio formed by Skydance, the Hollywood production company who has co-produced films including Terminator: Dark Fate, Gemini Man, and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

Amy Hennig Teams With Skydance Game Studio

According to a report on VentureBeat, Hennig will be helming the new studio in San Francisco and will be joined by Julian Beak, a former Electronic Arts executive who has 30 years of experience in the video games industry, working on the likes of Battlefield, Need for Speed, and Star Wars.

Hennig told the publication that the new studio will focus on ‘gamers and non-gamers alike,’ and consumers can expect fresh ‘story-focused experiences.’

After Visceral closed, we both looked at the industry. We said we were going to take a little time. Looking at the landscape, it felt like we were in an inflection point. And not just the game industry, but the center of the entertainment industry as a whole.

And so we just were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do a survey of the industry and talk to people and engage with people in the industry, as well as in the traditional entertainment industry. Just to see where people thought the wind was blowing. Who were we going to partner with?

Henna joined up with Crystal Dynamics in the late 1990s, where she worked on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and later served on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver as director, producer, and writer.

After joining Naughty Dog, Hennig served as director on Jak 3 and went on to director and write Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, before leaving the company in April 2014 amidst development of Uncharted 4.

She later joined Visceral Games to work on a new Star Wars project, though sadly the company was shuttered by EA in 2017.
