Public Engagement implements the University’s Social Charter while promoting the values of Queen's locally and globally. Public Engagement ensures the work of the University is reflected across the community, political sphere and business sector, building relationships with groups, leaders and organisations. Our main areas are: Public Affairs; Community Engagement; Business Engagement; Charities Committee and the Chief Executives' Club at Queen's.
Public Affairs
Public Affairs is the central coordinating hub for the University’s outreach activity with elected political representatives and government.
Public Affairs provides support to senior management and acts as a point of contact for politicians and officials seeking to engage with the University, and as a first port of call for staff who require help with regard to any engagement with elected representatives and government officials. The aim is to ensure that the strategic business of the University remains high on the political agenda and that Queen’s continues to play a leading role in shaping the educational, economic, cultural, and social development of Northern Ireland.
Neighbourhood Engagement
Neighbourhood Engagement aims to enhance relationships between the University and the local community.
The team works with a range of stakeholders in promoting positive student and community interventions and is also the point of contact for the community, civic, voluntary, statutory, and other stakeholders seeking engagement with the University on a range of issues. Neighbourhood Engagement coordinate schemes and initiatives which include: educating students on living as part of the community; improving community relations between students and residents; and promoting student volunteering.
Business Engagement
Queen’s University aims to connect, enhance and strengthen partnerships between University and the Northern Ireland business sector.
Business engagement acts as a central coordinating hub for the University’s links with key business membership organisations across Northern Ireland. We work to improve communication to the business community to ensure they are better informed about what Queen’s can offer and the contribution of the University to the Northern Irish economy. We collaborate with colleagues across the University; the team aims to increase participation at and representation by the University at key external Northern Ireland business events.
Social Impact and Civic Responsibility
Driving the Social Impact and Civic Responsibility agenda, the Civic Engagement team is responsible for the development and oversight of the University’s Civic Mission sub-strategy; for maintaining relationships with external stakeholders who will help shape the strategy and for nurturing internal relationships to support its implementation.
