EN - RARE Water (original) (raw)
THE LEGENDS Armenian folklore is rich with legends centered around the mystical power of water. Among these is the revered goddess Astghik, Armenia’s counterpart to the Greek Aphrodite. Once the goddess of love and fertility, Astghik's role evolved into the protector of love, beauty, and the life-giving sources of water, including springs and rivers.
Her legacy endures through the vibrant Vartavar festival, still celebrated across Armenia. During this festival, people joyfully sprinkle water on one another, a symbolic act believed to bring good health, luck, and even invoke Astghik’s blessing for rain during the hot summer months.
The prominence of water in Armenian myth and tradition is no coincidence; it reflects the deep connection between the people and the life-sustaining element that has been celebrated for centuries.
