Critics Consensus
Ana de Armas' luminous performance makes it difficult to look away, but Blonde can be hard to watch as it teeters between commenting on exploitation and contributing to it.
Audience Says
It doesn't matter how well-acted or creatively filmed it is -- watching Blonde is a really unpleasant experience.

Rated: 2/5 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Todd Gilchrist AV Club Ana de Armas (Knives Out) delivers a truly extraordinary performance as the platinum superstar and icon, while Dominik and his collaborators discover endlessly inventive ways to recreate highlights from Monroe’s iconography. I like it, especially for de Armas’s tour de force, but I can see how others may not. Audience Member I honestly couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes. It felt like madness. I also can’t unhear Jennifer Coolidge every time she talks. Not my cup of tea. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review Bilguun M Watching Blonde is an unpleasant experience, its point lost amidst the nonstop torture of its lead character. It's a vapid feverish nightmare of a movie best skipped Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Oolong S The positives: Ana De Armas did phenomenal as Marilyn Monroe and she definitely deserved the Oscar nomination, the effort she put into the role was really impressive. It's clear that she did her research on Marilyn and did her best to make everything perfect when playing as her. The negatives: The film is way too exploitive and is extremely hard to watch most of the time and is rather really upsetting, all it shows is her trauma rather than the incredible woman she was, Marilyn was a ray of sunshine, and the film smears her name in one of the most horrible ways possible, and some of the parts of the film were fictional. it's a slap in the face to her legacy. Overall, skip it if you're trying to research about Marilyn, just simply read or listen to documentaries about her life, and watch some of her actual films that she starred in, this film will highly disgust you if you're trying to learn about her rather than seeing a highly traumatized and sexualized version of her. The movie being 3 hours long also adds on how dreadful it can be to sit through. Overall grade: D- (20%) 🦠 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Jennifer M I was intrigued because I didn't know this movie existed. Now I know why. I watched maybe 20 minutes of it. When they show Marilyn Monroe "starting out". Like someone else mentioned, it's trauma porn. I had to shut it off. I don't think this is a close depiction of her life. Why do people insist on smearing Marilyn Monroe's life and name. Do not watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review lisa l Ana De Armas was the worst possible choice for this role. That big dimple in her chin was very distracting and her acting wasn't great. The movie was a trivial mess and the ending very disappointing.
