A juvenile, ugly movie that represents the worst tendencies of directors channeling Tarantino.
J. R. Jones Chicago Reader A macho bloodbath with a lot of juvenile humor and fake Catholic mysticism... Jul 14, 2022 Full Review Nathan Rabin AV Club Satire or self-parody would be vastly preferable to the film's unironic endorsement of outlaw justice, but you'd be hard pressed to find anything resembling irony or subversiveness in this exercise in lovingly rendered ultra-violence. Jul 26, 2011 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness [A] dim-witted, aesthetically clunky Tarantino clone. Rated: 0.5/4 Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins An enthralling gangster epic, a solid action film, and a jolting vigilante-justice crime caper. Rated: 7/10 Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus The Boondock Saints, on one level, is a really great direct-to-video cult film. Stylish, defiantly endearing, and even borderline iconic. Apr 10, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
Mark steven H A great movie with a good story line very good acting and I was much impressed of the hole move .it's very much underestimate d and has not had the true support it should have received this is up there with good movies like spiderman, superman,Ironman. To name a couple 10/10 it really is a great movie to watch as is part 2 boondock saints. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Robert B Excellent film, original and thought provoking and funny at the same time. It's amazing how different the views are of the so called experts when compared to the publics. Onwards to the second movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Jacob B When divorced from the behind-the-scenes drama that ruined any chances the director would have of becoming the next Quentin Tarantino, The Boondock Saints is actually a really good vigilante film, especially for an off-brand Tarantino film. The characters are memorable, the actors are giving it their all with Willem Dafoe stealing the show, it's quotable ("THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!"), has a couple of awesome moments and is even darkly humourous. I understand that not everybody might be impressed by it given how the vocal the fanbase is about their love, resulting in them agreeing with the critics instead but I had a good time watching this film. It's a shame the director turned out to be a colossal asshole who let his good fortunes get to his head, resulting in going from rags-to-riches-to-rags. I can't imagine what it'll be like seeing this behaviour if I ever watch that documentary about his egotistical attitude one day.
