Peter Travers The Travers Take 47m This baby will scare the bejesus out of you, relentlessly and mercilessly, but that’s all there is. Go to Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) 1h Evil Dead is one of horror’s unkillable franchises, but amid the geysers of gore this latest entry lacks the two things every good zombie feature needs: a head and a heart. Go to Full Review Joe Friar Fort Worth Report 1h The demons in these films have always been scary, but in this instance, they are no match for hillbilly in-laws. Take out the horror, and you’re left with a backwoods Jane Austen film. Go to Full Review Kimberley Elizabeth Nightmare on Film Street 1h Lacks a bit of the quirkiness that the Raimi entries are known for but there are a lot of gnarly, gore-filled sequences Go to Full Review Jonathan DeHaan Nightmare on Film Street 1h Evil Dead Burn is a bit grimmer than the more fun entries in the franchise so if you, like me, appreciate the zanier stuff, then this might be a little bleak. That said, it's still a gory rollercoaster ride of a movie. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

cgrosenick 1h Some great gore and set pieces but logical inconsistencies and baffling character choices hold this back from being as great as Rise. See more Michael P 1h It’s very scary and extremely fun to watch with friends See more stay for the midcredit 2h But you don’t have to stay for the after Credits. See more Elijah B 2h This is the first Evil Dead film I’ve ever seen, and it did not disappoint. The way this movie uses the environment and different elements is so unique and cool. The performances from the entire family as deadites are great, and I liked the story here too. It did such a great job at showing an emotional connection between the family as well as a horrific situation, which made for a great combination of the two. I also have to say that this movie is surprisingly funny all the way through, with most of the laughs coming from the grandma in the family. Overall, this was a very sick and twisted horror film that I thought was great (8/10). See more Drew 2h Not my favorite E.D. But a brutal entry that touches on some lore and brings new deadite characteristics not seen yet. I enjoyed it, movie has some teeth for sure but also has some problems. The humor was dark and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next one :) See more Charles S 2h Evil Dead Burn is the 6th installment of a franchise that also includes 3 seasons of a TV show and numerous comic books. Now, I never put the grade first, but since it is all I could think about during the 2nd half of the movie, it is a B-. The music, setting, and effects are amazing and completely pull you into the creepy, unsettling, dark atmosphere of the film. The jump scares are so good that my butt even left my seat from time to time, but, and there is always a but, the original trilogy was violent and bloody, but in a darkly comedic way. Looking back, I cannot say that those movies were gory. The 2013 remake, which I really enjoyed, is what truly started upping the gore of these movies, but I think it has gone too far. It is the difference between watching Halloween or Scream versus watching Saw or Hostel. There is a big difference between scary and gross, and this film long jumps over that line. The biggest culprits are the 3 kissing scenes, which you will need to see to believe. The other weirdness is that this movie starts with the same introduction as the last movie (Rise), but it actually makes sense this time. Rise felt completely disjointed from all of the other media because it had no connections to the original trilogy, which made it feel unnecessary. The major issue, though, is that this movie tried and failed at being "elevated horror" by trying to tackle the difficult issue of domestic violence, and not just from the view of the victim, but from the views of siblings, parents, and even grandparents who ignore, enable, and overlook such reprehensible behavior. This theme was taken so far that the movie feels off when certain characters forgive their attackers, try to help them, or simply curl up in the fetal position, too overwhelmed to act against the violence occurring all around them. I am sure this is true of victims of domestic violence, but it feels so out of place in an Evil Dead movie, not to mention the nods to the original trilogy that were pointless. Using a weedeater over a chainsaw and having one of the demons amputate themselves to escape just slaps fans right across the face. These are the worst kind of easter eggs for those who have enjoyed the franchise thus far. See more Read all reviews
